The Director of Worship facilitates the worship life of the diocese by coordinating and providing quality prayer and liturgical experiences which help people encounter Jesus; ensures the connection between worship and evangelization; orchestrates the calendar of liturgical celebrations and prayer services to ensure the integrity of the liturgical year. Attention should be given to sensitivity to cultural diversity.

The incumbent reports to the Senior Director of the Evangelization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

Vision, Strategy and Leadership

In alignment with the vision of the Senior Director of the Evangelization, the jobholder develops strategies, frameworks, and programs that will enable parishes and schools provide quality prayer and liturgical experiences which help people encounter Jesus. The specific areas of focus are Liturgy, Music, and Prayer.
Provides direct services to Parishes & Schools in the following:
Worship & Prayer

Resources parish liturgical leaders with information and assistance as appropriate in developing their parish liturgical life through print, electronic, and other media and live presentations and meetings
Develops workshops for ongoing liturgical formation for ministers and publicizes regional workshop opportunities and provides training for all liturgical ministers.
RCIA

Resources RCIA leaders with information and assistance as appropriate in developing their parish RCIA programs via print, electronic, and other media and live presentations and meetings
Informs RCIA leaders of local, regional, national and international developments in RCIA
Liturgies

Coordinates the Rite of Election, Chrism Mass, etc.; Ordination to the Priesthood, Ordination to the Deaconate and Adult Confirmation Liturgies
Coordinates others diocesan liturgies at which the bishop presides
Music

Coordinates music for diocesan liturgies and reviews selections recommended by musicians.
Other Or Shared Responsibilities:

Convenes the Liturgical Commission and ad hoc advisory groups
Drafts policies and guidelines for liturgy, RCIA and related areas, obtains approval and communicates to parishes and schools
Connects with pastors and principals on a one-on-one basis or at Deanery meetings at least once a year to discuss liturgy and prayer needs, strengths and concerns at the parish.
Serves as diocesan representative for regional, national and international liturgy and RCIA forums and professional organizations
Approves and maintains appropriate web content for liturgy and RCIA on Diocesan public website.
Finances and Operations:

Prepares annual budget and monitors performance throughout fiscal year.
Collaboration and Communication:

Regularly communicate and implement diocesan worship vision, frameworks, and programs with parish/school leaders.
Works closely with Communications Office to engage and identify success stories and events, coordinate editorial calendar and share the Good News!

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or physical demands required. Education and/or Experience: MA in liturgical studies, theology with a liturgical emphasis, or equivalent formal education; plus 5-7 years of minimum experience as a parish or diocesan liturgist. Ability to read music for the purpose of teaching liturgical ministers and for evaluating liturgical appropriateness.

Understands the role of worship within the Church’s mission of evangelization.
Understands Catholic teaching on liturgy as presented in the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals, documents of the USCCB and other relevant Church documents.
Is familiar with the Ordo, Rite Books, GIRM, and liturgical calendar.
Language Skills: Multilingual, English and Spanish or English and Vietnamese is preferred; Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to interpret professional journals and liturgical documents; ability to write resources, correspondences, policy, and liturgical scripts; ability to compose material that would be translatable into other languages; ability to write presentations and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, individual, and the general public of multicultural community.

Computational Skills: Ability to read and manage a budget and contribute to building an office budget. Ability to use external and internal websites and edit as appropriate.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where varying degrees of standardization exist.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, music creation/review software (e.g. Finale), and basic knowledge of internet applications and social media platforms.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also be able to transport and set up items at an off-site work space for presentation, liturgies, and other events, such as Chrism Mass.

Physical Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in an individual office with a door. The offices are situated next to one another. The noise level is usually quiet. The space is wheelchair accessible. Some of the work will be performed in various parish locations, including churches, halls and classrooms. Noise level and accommodations will vary.

Working Conditions: The employee must be physically present in the office during normal office hours to complete office tasks. The employee must be able to multi-task and work cooperatively, negotiate, communicate, and collaborate with other members of the staff and clients of various cultures, personalities, and spiritualties. The employee is expected to work outside normal office hours on a regular basis as required. When necessary, the employee will work off-site under varying working conditions. Travel may be required.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $95,000 per year based on education, experience, skills and salary scale.
