Youth Ministry
The Archdiocese of San Francisco supports youth ministry programs that foster the catechesis, moral, and spiritual formation of young people in Middle School through High School.
Our Goals
Guided by the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision (1997), our ministry has three goals:
To empower young people (ages 13-17) to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today;
To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;
To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
To accomplish these goals, we offer training, community, workshops, resources, retreats, and collaboration opportunities for Youth Ministry Leaders within the Archdiocese, as well as training, retreats, catechetical events, leadership opportunities for youth themselves.

Black Catholic History Month Celebration Mass
November not only marks a time when we pray for all saints and souls in loving remembrance, but also a time to recall the saints and souls of Africa and the African Diaspora. Notwithstanding the moral crimes of chattel slavery, the French and Spanish missionaries ministered to their free and enslaved African population within their respective colonies. This ministry laid the foundation for Black Catholic communities within the United States, i.e. Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Saint Augustine, Florida.
The celebration is organized by the Sacred Heart Council and Court of the Knights of Peter Claver, domiciled at St. Boniface Parish in San Francisco.
The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. is the largest historically African-American Catholic lay organization in the United States. The Order is named for St. Peter Claver, the Spanish Priest who ministered to African slaves. The Order was founded in Mobile, Alabama and is presently headquartered in New Orleans.
All are welcome to attend. A reception will follow the Mass. Free secure parking is available in the Mission Dolores School lot (entrance on Church Street).
TRUE OF FALSE?
1. Many Africans converted to Catholicism after arriving in the New World.
2. African who were already Catholics were sold as slaves in Latin American colonies.
3. African who were already Catholics were sold as slaves in North American English colonies.
4. Priests were instrumental in the passage of laws regarding humane treatment of enslaved persons.
5. Enslaved persons who were Catholics led major revolts and escapes throughout the Americas.

SF Turkey Drive at St. Emydius Church
Our goal is to PROVIDE MEALS WITH A SMILE to the diners at St. Anthony’s Dining Room. This Tenderloin kitchen is sometimes the last place for a meal when hunger strikes.
St. Anthony serves not only over 2,500 meals daily, but they bring hope for a better future to those who don’t have much to live for. A meal with a smile is what’s needed to encourage the poor to keep going and find hope for a new future.
The SF Turkey Drive is a neighborhood event to give the chance to neighbors in the southern part of San Francisco to help feed the hungry coming to St. Anthony’s. Last year alone, the effort contributed 1392 turkeys (actual and virtual turkeys).
On November 19, bring turkeys (preferably frozen) or boxes of fresh vegetables at the drop-off site.
On December 17, bring hams, turkeys or boxes of fresh veggies.
Online donations can be simply made from our website in November and December at SFTurkeyDrive.com

Church of the Nativity Advent Lecture Series
“He knew His mother in predestination, even before He was born of her; even before, as God, He created her of whom, as man, He was to be created, He knew her as His mother” (Trac. In Iohanem 8,9). “He chose the Mother he had created; he created the Mother he had chosen” (Serm. 69,3). Aurelius Augustinus (Saint Augustine of Hippo)
Rev. Gregory Heidenblut, O.S.A., DD, will continue his annual lecture series during the Season of Advent with a challenging and informative discussion of Mary’s role in the history of salvation. The five-week series will focus on the myths and realities associated with Mary the mother of Jesus. Is Mary’s roll and importance overstated in the Latin and Orthodox traditions? Or do we need to reclaim her importance and status in the history of salvation? These questions and many more will be discussed during this informative journey into the life and place of the first Christian – Mary of Nazareth.
The lectures will begin the week of November 21st and continue each of the three weekday evenings throughout the Advent Season 2022. Lectures will be in the Church unless otherwise noted. All lectures will take place following the schedule below for the three parishes in the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Tuesday, November 22 – 7:00 to 8:30 PM
Week 2: Dogma 1: Theotokos/Mother of God. Why must Mary be the Mother of God? Do Catholics worship Mary? Understanding of Dulia, Hyperdulia and Latria.

Saint Monica Parish Advent Lecture Series
